A practical distinction
OEM commonly refers to manufacturing to a buyer’s design/specification, while ODM commonly refers to supplier-originated design capability that buyers can select or adapt. Suppliers use the labels differently, so contracts and specifications matter more than acronyms.
Ask these questions
Who created the design? Who owns CAD and tooling? What may be modified? Is the design exclusive? What are sample and revision fees? What happens if you move production later?
